Welcome to the February 2018 edition of Sajid Javid MP's newsletter
WELCOME
Now that February is upon us, it’s not long until my 4th Annual Jobs Fair, which will take place on Friday 23rd February from 11:00 – 14:00 at North Bromsgrove High School.

The Fair will bring together more than 60 local organisations, businesses and entrepreneurs offering more than 2,000 opportunities to constituents looking for jobs and apprenticeships.

From Jaguar Land Rover to the British Army, the Fair will span a variety of sectors – there really will be something for everyone.

Thank you to the main sponsor of our Jobs Fair, Grimes Finishings Ltd. for their generosity and commitment to Bromsgrove business.

I'd also like to thank Bournville College, BBE Recruitment, the Bromsgrove Standard, Heart of Worcestershire College, GKN PLC and South & City College Birmingham.  The support of these organisations has helped to ensure that this Jobs Fair is set to be the most successful yet.

Finally, I'm pleased that unemployment remains at just 1% in our constituency. That means financial security for hardworking people. As encouraging as this is, there's always still more to do.

It's important for me to hear your comments, thoughts, and feedback, so please don't hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards,

Sajid Javid
Member of Parliament for Bromsgrove
RECENT ACTIVITY
It was a pleasure to speak at the business lunch for Primrose Hospice recently. Primrose Hospice suffered terrible adversity at the start of the year after lead was stolen from the roof, leaving the hospice with £900 of repairs.  I was proud to see the Bromsgrove community pull together in order to help Primrose Hospice recover from the damage and ensure that the great work of this charity could continue.

On the 16th June and 22nd September 2018, Primrose Hospice will be holding its annual charity tandem skydive, Parachute for Primrose.  I encourage all daring constituents to get involved – it’s not every day that you have the opportunity to fall 10,000 feet at over 120 mph while also raising money for such a good cause!
I had a healthy start to the year, with a visit to the Bromsgrove Sports & Leisure Centre.  It truly is an asset to the local community, featuring a climbing centre, six-lane swimming pool, exercise studios and a 100-station fitness suite.

Four years ago, Bromsgrove District Council unveiled its vision for this new centre, and after significant efforts and some funding from Sports England, it’s brilliant to see the Centre come to fruition. There’s so much for constituents to enjoy at this fantastic new facility.
I recently met with inspiring constituent and Youth Ambassador to the One Campaign, Emily Watkins.  We discussed access to education in the developing world.

My meeting with Emily came shortly before the UK Government announced that it is increasing its support for a global education fund for developing countries by 50%, to £75m per year. This is a significant step towards providing quality education to every child around the world and empowering the next generation.
It was great to meet with our West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner, John Campion.  We discussed local crime priorities and the year ahead.  Engagement with community groups and local government is important to John, and as your Police and Crime Commissioner he is dedicated to ensuring that the views of the community are at the heart of his decisions.
I was honoured to sign the Holocaust Educational Trust's Book of Commitment in Parliament  to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.

I felt privileged to speak at the moving and powerful Holocaust Memorial Day Ceremony.  I am immensely proud to back the vital work of the Trust.  We can all continue to make a difference by ensuring that we challenge misinformation and intolerance in our society.
It was great to have the opportunity to meet with GoServe, a rapidly expanding IT firm in Bromsgrove. The team have more than 20 years of experience within the sector and their dedication to customer service is clear to see.  Thank you for having me and congratulations on your success, it's great to see another Bromsgrove success story!
I had the pleasure of visiting Bromsgrove-based AFH Financial Group.  AFH is a real Bromsgrove success story, having started as a team of 7 on Bromsgrove High Street, this dynamic SME now employs 300 people locally.  With business growth at the heart of the Government’s agenda, businesses like AFH are the backbone of the British economy and I want to see more of them growing and creating jobs in Bromsgrove, and across the country as a whole.
