Thank you to all Bretton Woods Committee members and friends who attended our successful and thought-provoking Annual Meeting on April 19, 2017. This year’s program theme – The Future of Globalism and Multilateralism – focused on the future of the Bretton Woods system in a changing geopolitical landscape. Global Development Dialogue - Catalyzing Private Sector Investment in Infrastructure in EMDEs

In April, the Bretton Woods Committee and World Bank held a roundtable discussion – chaired by Committee Advisory Council member Bill Rhodes and World Bank CFO Joaquim Levy – to explore ways to overcome current investment challenges and MDB/IFI initiatives that could further spur private sector appetite for resilient, climate-smart infrastructure investment in emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs). Regional SpotlightCanadian Perspectives on NAFTA

On June 28, 2017 the Bretton Woods Committee hosted the virtual conference, Regional Spotlight: Canadian Perspectives on NAFTA. Benoit Daignault, of Export Development Canada and Brett House of Scotiabank discussed challenges and opportunities for Canada in renegotiating and modernizing NAFTA with Kent Hughes of the Wilson Center moderating the conversation. Henry Owen Memorial 2017 Award Winners Announced

For this year’s Henry Owen Memorial Award essay contest, graduate students were asked to consider how the Bretton Woods institutions might demonstrate their relevance and the value of international economic integration in light of the rise of recent populist movements and underlying tension with or outright rejection of globalization and the economic tenets championed at the Bretton Woods conference. Member Spotlight

The Bretton Woods Committee would like to congratulate the following members on their recent achievements!

The Honorable José Ángel Gurría, Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, was awarded the Bill Frenzel Champion of Free Trade Award by the Economic Club of Minnesota.
Ambassador Robert Zoellick, former United States Trade Representative, was also awarded the Bill Frenzel Champion of Free Trade Award by the Economic Club of Minnesota.
Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Alphonse Fletcher University Professor and Director of the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research at Harvard University, was awarded the Darwin T. Turner Award for Outstanding Contributions to African American Literary Scholarship
Heath P. Tarbert, Partner at Allen & Overy LLP, has been nominated to serve as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury, by President Donald J. Trump and is awaiting confirmation vote in the Senate.
