It is also our pleasure to share with you an incredible report just published by our partners at the World Bank Group, the World Development Report 2019, The Changing Nature of Work. Making sure you have access to this report is the latest in our ongoing efforts to provide valuable learning material to all of our participants and supporters. You can read more below, and we highly recommend you download the report to keep as an invaluable reference tool as you work on your proposals and future pursuits.
As we announced last week, we are excited to be bringing back the Social Spotlight of the Week as a regular newsletter and social media feature. We thought the best way to kick things off would be to recognize one of our social spotlights from 2018 - a group who went on to win second place in the 2018 competition: Team Starlight from Rwanda! While social spotlight recipients do not gain any direct advantages in the judging process, sharing your idea via social media is a great way to be recognized on the local and global level, and we want to amplify that recognition in any way we can. To be considered, please share a picture, brief description, or video about your project on Twitter or Facebook and use #Ideas4Action2019.
Additionally, as you know we share a new Knowledge@Wharton article each week. This week we have a special piece featuring a podcast from Ideas for Action Co-Chair Dr. Djordjija Petkoski, Senior Fellow and Lecturer at Wharton's Zicklin Center for Business Ethics, who discusses the importance of collaboration in food systems with Harvard's Professor Ray Goldberg.
Please don't forget that the SDGs&Her competition is now accepting applications for 2019! Click to learn more, apply, or share information about SDGs&Her.The deadline closes December 31, 2018, so be sure to share this information with any interested female micro-entrepreneurs you know who are working toward the SDGs.
The World Bank recently launched its 2019 World Development Report, The Changing Nature of Work. The Report studies how the nature of work is changing as a result of advances in technology today. Fears that robots will take away jobs from people have dominated the discussion over the future of work, but the Report finds that this appears to be unfounded and that technology is bringing opportunity. Firms can grow rapidly thanks to digital transformation, and the Report considers how government policy should be reoriented in response to these changes, particularly in the areas of human capital investment, expanded social protection, and improved domestic resource mobilization strategies.
