How will the research part of the study work?
The study involves 800 families referred by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services for the Intact Family Services program. Intact Family Services allows families to stay together safely together while they receive services to meet their needs. Half of the families will receive unconditional monthly cash payments for a full year in addition to the traditional Intact Family Services. The payment amounts will be tailored to family size and local living costs to promote equity. The other half of families will receive only the traditional Intact Family Services. What is the goal of the study?
The goal of the study is to see if cash intervention can reduce child maltreatment, prevent costly foster care placements, and improve outcomes for vulnerable families. This program reflects Brightpoint’s ongoing commitment to developing strategies rooted in research and best practices to inform sound public policies.
