May is Bike to Work Month!
The Bay Area Team Bike Challenge starts Tuesday! Do you enjoy a little friendly competition? Does having teammates spur you to action? Create or join a team to compete for the most miles ridden throughout the month. A handy smartphone app will automatically track your rides.
I've been testing the app out over the last couple weeks. I had never considered using any of those exercise-tracking apps before - how could little badges and awards on my phone make any difference? I thought I was above it all. But, WOW, I've gotten hooked! I've ridden FAR more the past weeks than usual...and the competition hasn't even started yet!
(If you get stuck trying to get set up, shoot me an email at eris@bikesonoma.org or call the office at 545-0153 and I'll help you figure it out!)
If that sounds overwhelming, why not just Pledge to Ride on Bike to Work Day May 10? Energizer Stations are set up during the morning commute (6-9 am) along cycling routes throughout the county, offering riders snacks, swag, and encouragement. It's like having cheerleaders along your commute route! Check out our interactive map for the station nearest your home or workplace. Then, celebrate your achievement after work with an after-party at 2Tread Brewing in the Santa Rosa Plaza Mall.
Major funding and support for Bike to Work Month activities comes from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, Measure M, GoSonoma, Marin Bikes, and Santa Rosa Cycling Club. Station hosts and bag sponsors include the cities of Cotati, Petaluma, Santa Rosa, and Windsor; BikePartners.net, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Mudroom Backpacks, Olivers Market, Trek, Community Market, Performance Bicycles, Camelbak, Amy's Kitchen, Kaiser Permanente, Keysight Technologies, Sports Basement, SMART, Lagunitas, White Industries, YMCA, Quadriga, and Mikes Bikes.
