Bike to Work Month Special Addition
On Thursday, May 11, 2017 we will celebrate our annual Bike to Work Day! We’re working to make this the best year ever with exciting musette bags available at Energizer Stations throughout the County. Check out the 2017 Energizer Stations Map for a location near  you.

If you live less than 5 miles from where you work, then you probably have an ideal bike commute! If you’ve never tried riding your bike to work, shoot us an email for help creating a personalized plan on how to ride to work. We hope you’ll love it so much that you’ll start riding on a regular basis.

Team Bike Challenge
Teams of up to 5 people are competing to earn the most points by commuting by bike during the month of May. Learn more and Register now to start logging your miles starting May 1st! The winning Sonoma County team will receive a set of cool Mountain Hardwear commuter packs!

Thank you to our local Bike to Work Day sponsors!

Congratulations 2017 Sonoma County Bike Commuters of the Year!

Every year, in celebration of Bike to Work Month, each of the nine Bay Area counties crowns one dedicated and inspiring individual committed to travelling by bicycle as their primary mode of transport as “Bike Commuter of the Year.” This year,  SCBC was so touched by the stories of two particular individuals, both steadfast bike commuters and so inspiring in their own right, we felt that both deserved to be crowned and celebrated! Our congratulations go out to 2017 Sonoma County Bike Commuters of the Year, Shaun Ralston and Steve Bush! Shaun and Steve will each receive a cool set of prizes and will be further honored at our Bike Commuter of the Year celebratory party (stay tuned for the date and more info)!

Shaun Ralston (pictured to left)
Shaun Ralston, a Regional Manager at Sutter Health, has become a dedicated bicycle commuter logging nearly 3,000 miles/year. After a diabetic diagnosis 15 years ago, Shaun ditched his car in favor of a healthier two wheel option. Ever since, he has become a 100% green commuter, cycling most days to his Santa Rosa hospital office and navigating weekly public transit connections to his San Francisco corporate office. Shaun has developed a love for recreational cycling, too, riding and organizing some of Sonoma County’s favorite charity century rides. As a weathered bike commuter, Shaun learned about the need for cycling advocacy and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Santa Rosa City Council Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board. Among his other duties at Sutter Health, Shaun operates the staff transit/green incentive program which is designed to increase employees’ use of alternative modes of transportation, including bicycle commuting. Despite this busy schedule, Shaun absolutely cherishes his road time claiming, “Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of riding a bike.”

Steve Bush (pictured to right)
Steve Bush and his wife live car-free and bike everywhere. Steve is an inspiration for Kindergartners at Sonoma Country Day School for his excellence in inspiring young minds first and foremost, but also for his commitment to the environment in so many ways. Most obviously is his daily commute to school – rain or shine – on his trusty Bike Friday folding bike. Steve’s gorgeous blue bike parked outside of his classroom has become an iconic piece of each school day. He is truly an inspiration to students, faculty and others!

Want to Help Out? Check Out Our Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

We have several fun volunteer opportunities coming up this summer!

Thursday, May 11, is Bike to Work Day. If you’re an “early bird,” you might enjoy handing out goodies at one of our Energizer Stations during the 6:00-9:00 am morning commute – check out the Energizer Station Map for the location nearest you!

If early mornings are NOT your thing, come help stuff the Bike to Work Day bags on Thursday, May 4, from 6:00-8:00 pm in our Santa Rosa office.  Snacks and beverages will be provided.

Once again, we will be providing valet bike parking at the Santa Rosa Wednesday Night Market. Come staff a 2-4 hour shift and meet other cyclists. (Don’t worry if you’ve never done it before, we’ll train you!)

If you’re interested in volunteering for one or more of the events above, please RSVP to Eris Weaver at eris@bikesonoma.org.

Thanks for all you do to make Sonoma County the BEST place to ride a bike!
