Sonoma County Celebrates
International Walk and Roll to School Day!

Wednesday October 3rd was Sonoma County’s International Walk and Roll to School Day event. Our Safe Routes to School (SRTS) team coordinated with 54 K-8 schools countywide to encourage families to walk, bicycle, skateboard or scooter to school.  Close to seven thousand students walked or rolled, about 34% of the total number of students in attendance at participating sites – a 42% increase over the county average for active transportation. Schools with the highest bicycling rate(s) in Sonoma County were: Sonoma Mountain Elementary in Petaluma (25% of student body in attendance), Sebastopol Independent Charter School (15%), Spring Creek Charter: Spring Creek Campus (14%) and Sun Ridge School in Sebastopol (12%).  Several more schools had between 8-10% of their students bicycling, close to triple the county baseline average of 3%:  Brooks Elementary in Windsor (9%), Hahn in Rohnert Park (9%), Santa Rosa French American Charter (8%), Geyserville Elementary (8%), Grant Elementary in Petaluma (8%), McNear Elementary in Petaluma (8%).  Thank you for supporting SCBC’s advocacy for safer routes to schools and in our communities, enabling more families to walk and bicycle to school!
