A PERSONAL APPEAL

As I  wrap my arms and mind around my new role as Executive Director, I’ve been scheduling one-on-one meetings with staff, board members, and leaders in the cycling community. The stories that I hear make me so proud and grateful to be part of this movement.

I have been struck by the passion my staff brings to their work - their love of teaching, their desire to make a difference, their dedication to affecting climate change, their commitment to two-wheeled transportation in a world that doesn’t exactly make it easy.

Cycling can heal the environment.

I’ve also been riding more, and chatting with random people I meet along the way. The other night, waiting with my bike to get on the train, I struck up a conversation with another rider about his e-bike. We continued to talk while we were on the train, eventually joined by another cyclist. Everyone else on the train stared into space or at their phones, while the three of us chatted merrily.

Cycling can build community.

I have heard stories from folks for whom cycling has eliminated their chronic illnesses, helped them heal from emotional losses, reduced their stress levels, made them feel strong and confident and powerful.

Cycling can heal bodies and minds.

If you have experienced any of these benefits of cycling, won’t you help us bring these benefits to others? People won’t ride if they don’t think they can or if they don’t feel safe. Your tax-deductible donation helps us advocate for policies and projects that make our streets safer, while teaching cyclists skills for navigating those streets safely and responsibly.
