+ Thanksgiving 2020 +

Dear friends of the Old Latin School. We are so grateful for your support in trying times. You are very encouraging. Thank You very much.

Today we celebrate Thanksgiving with all our friends in the United States of America. We rejoice in God´s great miracles and saving wonders: His victory & our salvation. Ever since He brought back to light His most precious Gospel through Dr. Martin Luther, His praises have been sung by Christians around the world - sometimes with the beautiful words of Paul Gerhardt and translated by John Kelly (LSB 737):

Rejoice, my heart, be glad and sing, A cheerful trust maintain;
For God, the source of ev'rything, Your portion shall remain.

He is your treasure, He your joy, Your life and light and Lord,
Your Counselor when doubts annoy, Your shield and great reward.

Yes, we here at the Old Latin School in Lutherstadt Wittenberg have so much to be grateful for. Especially for being in God´s good books through Jesus Christ´s justification. Our chapel is open every day and Divine Services continue Sunday for Sunday. Our bookstore is open, but there´s no business. Tourism has come to a standstill. The Old Latin School needs Your support more than ever. Please, do support us with Your donation and keep us in Your prayers.

"They will come back shedding tears of contrition.
I will bring them back praying prayers of repentance."

(Jeremiah 31,9 - Watchword for November 2020)

This is a picture of the Lucas Cranach junior´s Altar in St. Mary´s (Kemberg), where Dr. Martin Luther preached 14x. Here Bartholomew Bernhardi served. He was the first Lutheran pastor to get married - 24th August 1521, whilst the Reformer was still hiding on the Wartburg. By accident, this altar started burning in 1994 - unrestorable. The picture stands in my office reminding me to count my days wisely -  especially in troubled times like ours.

These are celebrated on Sundays at 8:30 - sometimes in English, sometimes in German.

Thanksgiving

Lutherstadt Wittenberg welcomes You to give thanks for the Reformation which started in Luther´s time and continues to form the world. Here a monument from Annaberg, Saxony. Lutherans celebrate this reformation all over - also and especially in the Americas - North & South.

Today our friends in the United States of America are celebrating Thanksgiving. We are grateful for them and their faithfulness and wish them a very happy holiday - in peace and prosperity.

We are grateful for your support for us here at the origin of the reformation.
