FROM THE TOP

Anuj ChauhanDear Friends,

The department had a very successful year.  We hired three faculty – Nikki Farnsworth, Stephanie Kwon and Justin Shaffer.  Diego Gómez-Gualdrón and Kevin Cash won CAREER awards, and other faculty won large multi-million dollar awards from NIH and DOE.  Moises Carreon received an honorary doctorate from the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hildago, Tracy Gardner won the Board of Trustees award and Andy Herring received the Henry H. Storch award in Fuel Science.  Our students continue to excel - Kristen Hietala earned a trip to Capitol Hill, and Jimmy Crawford and Grace Anderson won the NSF GRFP awards.  We hosted the 2019 Regional AIChE Conference and plans are underway to host the West/SW Department Heads meeting in 2020 and ACS Colloids Symposium and the ASEE Summer School, both in 2021.  Alumni support to the #idigmines campaign doubled this year.  Professor Emeriti Dendy Sloan and Charles Vestal published a CBE History Book that is available on our web-page and via Amazon.

I hope you enjoy reading our newsletter. For our alumni, if you have been out of touch I hope the newsletter and department history book you will soon receive reignite your interest in the department and Mines. Please contact us and visit when you can. We love hearing from you!
