MY FAVORITE ROUTE - SARAH GATES

Sarah Gates rode her first Cycle Oregon in 1989, kept the pedals turning ever since, and now sits on our Board of Directors. The second installment of the My Favorite Route series features Sarah's thoroughly analyzed choice: Day 5 from Cycle Oregon Classic XXXI- Crater Lake. Click here to read on our blog.

Be sure to bookmark the Cycle Oregon Blog in your browser. We're adding new content regularly and capping off each week with a fun wrap-up of interesting bike news from all over that we call Freewheelin' Friday.

CLASSIC PHOTOS

Showers Pass is breaking through the April rain with a special Ray of Sunshine sale through April 7th. Click here to shop with a 20% discount and Showers Pass will additionally donate 5% of sales to the COVID-19 Response Fund.

Be sure to check out their new line of garment care products in collaboration with Grangers. Wash and renew your well-used gear with great advice from their blog here. Just because you're riding solo doesn't mean your gear should be stinky!

BIKE GALLERY IS OPEN!

Bike Gallery locations remain open with special hours and protocols and we stand with Governor Kate Brown's decision to name bicycle shops as essential businesses. Bicycles, as recreation and transportation, remain vital to Oregonians and we applaud the work Bike Gallery staff are putting in at this time. You can see their hours and safety actions here and take note of a 15% off sale now through April 30th.

Do you ever daydream of a handmade bicycle? Perhaps one bike that could take on any Cycle Oregon event? And what if this dream bicycle was made right here in Oregon? Such a bicycle exists and you can get one at Bike Gallery. The Co-Motion Deschutes is a shining example of the uncompromising craftsmanship from the Eugene-based manufacturer and, get this, it is ready to ride and on sale for $2,199!  A beautiful, modern classic.

The 18th annual Filmed By Bike festival has been postponed until September 11-13, 2020. But rather than wait until fall, their indomitable crew has shifted into high gear and will be hosting an online event to celebrate and entertain the bike community worldwide this Saturday April 4, 2020

The event will air live on YouTube with ticketed access. Ticket proceeds are split between the artists and Filmed by Bike. For more information and to buy tickets please click here.
“Trying to remember things that you knew how to do when you were younger and now have time for because you’re stuck at home.”
STEPHEN COLBERT FIXES A FLAT

He's the host of The Late Show and now, apparently, a working-from-home bike mechanic. Stephen Colbert admits that he doesn't ride often but "that's all changing now!".

Before he can ride, though, his bike needs a flat fix, a skill he says he learned as a teen. “I loved to work on my bike,” Colbert says. “I could go anywhere. I was faster, positive that I was faster than anyone in the world.”

He's a little rusty at first but the moves come back to him and he gets the job done. His use of a screwdriver in place of tire levers is resourceful but very likely to cause damage so watch this pro how-to for the best way to fix your own flats. Kudos to Colbert, keep riding!
