Hey,

I'm working on a post on biggest lessons in statistics I wasn't taught in the university. For example,

the importance of selection bias in education and everywhere else (this post is amazing)
- the fact that the published p values are probably the least important criterion by which to evaluate an academic paper (see the preamble to this post for some of the reasons why)
- the intuition behind why so much statistics done in the real world is so bad
- all the Slate Star Codex posts about statistics

I would love to know about your personal biggest lessons in statistics, best posts you've read on the topic, etc.! (you can just reply to this email)

Writing

I published three posts in December:

Where does talent come from? How easy is it to discover talent? in which I look at the family backgrounds of Nobel laureates in Physics and at winners of the first Pioneer.app tournament to better understand the sources of great talent.

Tools / Gear — a list of physical things I use (backpack, headphones, etc.), Chrome extensions, Windows apps and Android apps. Various Chrome extensions  — in particular Tab Snooze and Video Speed Controller — increase my productivity a lot.

My Favorite Movies, TV Shows, Books, Podcasts, Music  — self-describing

(links for Q4 2018 will be done in January!)

Best,
Alexey
