Deadline approaching for 2016 Mobility Bond input on Slaughter, William Cannon and Brodie corridors
|
|
|
In carrying out the 2016 Mobility Bond, the City of Austin is developing Corridor Mobility Plans for Slaughter Lane and William Cannon Drive as part of the Corridor Mobility Program and a Preliminary Engineering Report for Brodie Lane as part of the Local Mobility Program.
The public input period on proposed mobility improvements to the corridors launched on Nov. 1, with public meetings and an online input tool. If you missed those meetings, you can still view the preliminary recommendations for Slaughter, William Cannon and Brodie and provide your feedback for any or all of these corridors through the end of the day this Sunday, Nov. 26.
Earlier this year, the community provided input on what improvements they'd like to see on Slaughter, William Cannon and Brodie. We used the information provided by the community, along with technical assessments, to develop these preliminary recommendations to improve mobility, safety, and connectivity for all roadway users.
Mobility recommendations for Slaughter and William Cannon will be prioritized for design and construction funding as part of the 2016 Mobility Bond Corridor Construction Program. The 2016 Mobility Bond does not provide construction funding for Brodie. Recommendations outlined in the report for Brodie will be considered for future funding opportunities.

- Intersection improvements
- Sidewalks and curb ramps
- Bicycle facilities
- Transit-supportive improvements
These preliminary recommendations will be brought back to the public before the plan is completed. Learn more.

2016 Mobility Bond safety improvements at Pleasant Valley and Elmont to be discussed at Bicycle Advisory Council
|
|
ATD began making safety improvements to the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road and Elmont Drive in September 2017 and anticipates completing them in March 2018. The goal of the planned safety improvements is to reduce crashes at the intersection by reducing left-turn conflicts and enhancing pedestrian and bicycle safety. The project is being carried out as part of the Transportation Safety Improvement Program using 2016 Mobility Bond funding.
The status of this project and other important topics will be discussed at the Bicycle Advisory Council meeting tomorrow. It will take place at 6 p.m. in City Hall, Room 1027. More information about the Bicycle Advisory Council and tomorrow's meeting, including the agenda, can be found here.

Last Wednesday, Nov. 15, the Capital Metro Board of Directors approved an upcoming service change that Capital Metro is calling "the most significant changes to the agency's bus service in its history." The service change, which will go into effect on June 3, 2018, is part of the agency's rollout of its current Connections 2025 Transit Plan.
"The decision will bring changes to more than half of Capital Metro's 82 bus routes," reads a Capital Metro press release on the adoption. "The High-Frequency Network will increase from six to 14 routes, improving bus frequencies to 15-minute intervals, seven days a week. The changes will also greatly improve east-west connections."

Don't be a turkey: Celebrate responsibly this Thanksgiving!
|
|
By now, you've probably settled many of your Thanksgiving plans: The dishes to cook and the desserts to eat. But did you plan a safe ride home? Think about it — After that glass of wine at the in-laws' place and all the goodbye hugs, do you have your keys in hand, or did you make the responsible decision and plan ahead for a sober ride home?
Know your safe ride options at AustinTexas.gov/GetHomeSafe, where everything is listed, from pedicabs to limousines (hey, it’s cheaper than a DWI ticket). Law enforcement will be out again on weekends (Fri/Sat) doing "No Refusal" DWI enforcement beginning Friday, Nov. 17.
Don’t spoil your holiday with bad planning.
