Help Austin Center for Events "write the rules" for special events
Austin Center for Events wants your input as it develops administrative rules for the new Special Events Ordinance adopted by City Council on May 10.
A public meeting series overview and session topics will be provided at the kick-off tomorrow, June 19, from 2-4 p.m. at the New Central Library.
Mark your calendars and join ACE to share your ideas and feedback on the proposed rules at more public meetings in June, July, August, and September. All meeting times will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. View the dates and locations of all nine public meetings.
The Special Events Ordinance was crafted to streamline the public safety, permitting and management of special events in Austin. The administrative rules will outline specific procedures and requirements for carrying out the ordinance.

Beautify your community with creative crosswalks
Austin Transportation invites the Austin community to submit design proposals for creative crosswalks. Creative crosswalks use colors, textures, and patterns at marked pedestrian crossings to enliven city streets and raise awareness of pedestrian safety.
Communities can design creative crosswalks to reflect the special character of a neighborhood, mark the gateway to a district, or otherwise create local identity and pride. Visit the creative crosswalk program website for more information on design guidelines and application process.

Ride public transit on National Dump the Pump Day this Thursday
National Dump the Pump Day is this Thursday, June 21. Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association, this day encourages people to ride public transportation instead of driving a car.
Public transportation is a sustainable and affordable travel option that moves more people with fewer vehicles. Given that transportation accounts for 29 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States, dumping the pump can save energy and improve the long-term quality of our environment and public health. The individual savings can be great as well; according to APTA’s June Transit Savings Report, a two-person household that downsizes to one car and takes public transportation saves an estimated average of $10,160 a year. Learn more in APTA’s 2017 Public Transportation Fact Book.
Ready to ride transit in Austin? Use Capital Metro’s app to buy transit passes and plan your trip. Paper and digital transit passes are also available for purchase on Capital Metro’s online marketplace.
For other ways to dump the pump, visit our transportation demand management program website to learn how you can help reduce drive-alone trips and take up sustainable transportation options.
