New reports detail efforts to cut congestion through smarter choices
Did you know that removing just a small percentage of cars from roadways during rush hour can significantly relieve congestion? Nearly three out of four Austin commuters drive alone to work every day. Imagine if we could get that figure down!
Transportation demand management is the idea that we can quickly and cost-effectively improve mobility by changing how we get around rather than trying to build our way out of congestion. Want to know more? Check out Austin Transportation's new explainer piece about how transportation demand management can improve mobility in Austin.
Our Transportation Demand Management Program promotes solutions that move trips to off-peak hours or shift drive-alone trips to other forms, such as public transit, walking, biking, teleworking, carpooling, and vanpooling. We're working hard to help Austinites have happier, healthier commutes, but you don't have to take our word for it! Dive into the details in a new report that outlines the successes and progress we made last year.
These reports and more information are available at our Transportation Demand Management Program website.

With each revolution around the sun comes another Earth Day ATX celebration! Just like last year, Austin Transportation is offering you a free Austin B-Cycle day pass so you can snag some wheels and spin sustainably to the event!
Earth Day ATX
12-7 p.m., Saturday, April 21
Huston-Tillotson University
900 Chicon St., Austin, TX 78702
Simply enter the code 42118 at a B-cycle kiosk to access your free Earth Day ATX day pass. Earth Day ATX is a zero waste event, which means there will be many opportunities to lower your carbon footprint, conserve, recycle and upcycle. Learn more here.
Providing sustainable transportation options is essential to Austin Transportation's mission, but we also work hard to be sustainable in other ways. For example, we recently upgraded downtown parking pay stations with new solar panels, batteries, processors and screens, then donated the old panels to an educational nonprofit and recycled the rest.

Reminder: Take our survey to help shape Austin's mobility future
Provide your input on the future of Austin mobility! At last month's Traffic Jam! event, the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan team unveiled its MetroQuest survey, which asks the public to weigh in on three different scenarios for Austin’s future transportation network. These three scenarios are based on thousands of comments from public outreach in 2016 and 2017. Austin Transportation will use the feedback on these scenarios to develop the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan. The survey is available online at asmp.metroquest.com through May 31.

If you have questions about the survey, you can contact the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan team at ASMP@austintexas.gov. You can learn more about the planning process online at AustinTexas.gov/ASMP.
