This Wednesday, bring your input to the streets at the Traffic Jam
This Wednesday, Austin Transportation and Capital Metro are hosting Traffic Jam! Taking it to the Streets, an open house for the public to learn about Central Texas' transportation future.
- Date: Wednesday, March 28, 2018
- Time: 4-8 p.m.
- Location: Austin Central Library (710 Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78701)
- Take transit! The library is served by Routes 3, 111, 171 and 803.
Central Texas residents are invited to weigh in on two critical transportation initiatives, the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan and Project Connect, and learn about the approach agencies are taking to improve the region's transportation future. Attendees can talk with knowledgeable transportation experts, give input on proposed ideas and test concepts with hands-on activities. Participants will also have an opportunity to learn more about other initiatives, such as the City and Capital Metro's Smart Mobility Road Map, and other local transportation agencies, such as the Mobility Authority.
The Austin Strategic Mobility Plan and Project Connect are working together to help shape transportation in Central Texas for generations to come. To find out more about the Traffic Jam and agency initiatives, see AustinTexas.gov/ASMP and ProjectConnect.com.

Vision Zero: Safety improvements advance at Slaughter and Manchaca
Austin Transportation has activated a new traffic signal at the intersection of Slaughter Lane and Manchaca Road as part of an intersection safety improvement project currently under construction.
In partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation, the City of Austin has moved the project into the second of three major phases. The new signal became operational on March 9, 2018, and TxDOT is now installing pedestrian ramps, high-visibility crosswalks and a pedestrian island at the northeast corner of the intersection. Later this spring, dual left turns on Manchaca Road will be open to drivers.
City of Austin crews will construct medians and a shared-use bicycle and pedestrian path along Slaughter Lane during the third and final phase of the project. At final completion, dual left turns will be available to drivers on all four approaches, which will improve mobility. New raised medians along Slaughter Lane and Manchaca Road will enhance safety by eliminating left turns into and out of driveways. The project has an estimated completion date of summer 2018.
City Council allocated one-time funding to address needed safety improvements at five high-crash intersections as part of the Fiscal Year 2016 Budget Process. Construction of improvements at the first four intersections are complete, and these intersections have seen a significant reduction in crashes.
The 2016 Mobility Bond provides $15 million in new funding toward safety improvements at high-crash locations throughout Austin, and construction is underway at three of these intersections. ATD anticipates completing up to 15 intersection safety projects with Bond funding.

Check it out: Car-aoke safely by belting in, road signs say

"Carpool karaoke? Belt it out! But only if you're belted in!"
Carpools could be your choirpools as long as you make sure you're belted in while belting it out! You can see this latest message about carpools and seatbelt safety on dynamic message signs (DMS) around the city. Thanks to Jason Maurer, who submitted this winning message to our #OnTheRoadATX social media contest last year!
