NEW VIDEO: Don't be a Scott, know the pedestrian hybrid beacon

Don't get caught not knowing how to use a PHB, especially on a first date!
Pedestrian hybrid beacons (PHBs) may surprise you in the middle of a road, but don't let them catch you off guard. Fortunately, the City of Austin's latest video shows not only how to use a PHB but also how to improve your dating game. PHBs are pedestrian-activated warning devices which help people safely cross where there isn't a traffic signal. Learn more about PHBs and how to request one near you at AustinTexas.gov/PHB.

Tune in: ATD talks Austin's multimodal future

In the Austin Monitor's podcast episode "Getting multimodal with ATD," Laura Dierenfield, Manager for the Active Transportation and Street Design Division, and Nathan Wilkes, street designer and network planner, talk about Austin's dynamic transportation needs and demands and the multimodal solutions in progress and forthcoming. Their discussion covers the continued growth of the Austin's bikeway network for all ages and abilities, shifting transportation trends, and current encouragement initiatives toward shared and sustainable modes such as walking and biking for short trips.

Road signs advocate for people-watching — for those on the road!

"People watching is fun. Watch for pedestrians on the road." Thanks, Vincent Sellers, for this great safety message!
Austin road users may have seen some eye-catching words about pedestrian safety on our dynamic message signs (DMS) lately. This latest message comes from Vincent Sellers, a winner in our #OntheRoadATX contest last spring when ATD asked Austinites to submit their most clever safety messages. Congratulations, Vincent!
