Help shape the future of Austin’s transportation strategies and investments

Button that says "Take the ASMP Survey!"
Click the button above to take the online survey!

ATD is building on past engagement efforts to ensure the issues Austinites find most vital to improving mobility are front and center in our new Austin Strategic Mobility Plan (ASMP). Issues from commuter delay to travel choice; health and safety to affordability and more have emerged as key considerations for our policies, plans and transportation investments.

What matters most to you? What specific concerns or ideas do you have that could make getting into and around Austin better? Take a few minutes to complete this survey to share your priorities and your specific suggestions for improvement. Your input adds to our understanding of current priorities and builds on the important foundation of priorities expressed through prior community conversations, such as Mobility Talks, which help define our strategies for addressing transportation challenges.

The ASMP will include prioritized policies, programs and projects throughout the City of Austin, will be inclusive of all modes of transportation (biking, walking, driving, taking transit, etc.), and will guide Austin's transportation investments for the next 10+ years. Click here to learn more about how your input will help shape the development of the ASMP. The survey will be open until Friday, June 9, and is available on the ASMP website, AustinTexas.gov/ASMP, so please take a few minutes now to share your views.

Bike to Work Day returns Friday with fun activities and giveaways

National Bike Month culminates this Friday with Bike to Work Day, so invite your friends and coworkers to join your commute on Austin’s ever-improving bicycle network and participate in fun activities and giveaways along the way.

These tips will make it easy:
  • Visit Bike Austin’s Bike to Work Day website. Sign the Pledge to Ride, get tips and find a refueling station near you with free snacks, coffee and more.
  • If your commute is too long to bike, try taking your bike by car or transit to a refueling station within three miles of your workplace. Then bike the rest of the way for some exercise and fresh air.
  • Download the free RideReport app to track your trips, rate your rides, and help the City improve Austin bikeways.
  • Plan your route using the Austin Bike Map or a regional bike route map.
  • Find a bike buddy at MyCommuteSolutions.com
ATD data collected at permanent bicycle counters around the city during the past two years show that Bike to Work Day coincides with around a 50 percent average jump in ridership, so even if you head out alone, you'll likely encounter lots of enthusiastic riders. See the dashed line below for the daily averages of all cyclist counters in May 2016, which had a fairweather Bike to Work Day morning, and compare it to the dotted 5-day rolling average:
In 2015, it poured on Bike to Work Day, and the increase in ridership helped even out the approximately 50 percent decrease that has happened on rainy days in May, bringing ridership closer to what it might have been on a nicer, non-bike-themed day. See the dashed and dotted lines again for trends for May 2015, which had a rainy Bike to Work Day morning:
Now that you've seen the charts, it's time to pump up your tires, check your brakes, ready your helmet, lights and bike bag – and get to work!

ATD and APD merge knowledge of ground transportation enforcement

Earlier this month, ATD Ground Transportation Division enforcement officers met with Austin Police Department officers to share knowledge of the City Code as it relates to regulations governing taxicabs, transportation network companies (also known as ride-hailing services), limousines, charters, pedicabs, and other mobility services.

The sessions were designed to give patrol officers a better understanding of ground transportation services while creating camaraderie between the two departments. The presentations proved to be so beneficial that there will be a series of presentations between the two departments.
