White text on black background that says in all caps “BLACK LIVES MATTER” with a line underneath. Below the line more white text says “A George Floyd Uprisings Collaborative Resource List”

Black. Lives. Matter. Black men, women, children, non-binary and trans lives matter. An approach we often take with our work is collaboration and with that in mind have started this document. We recognize the uprisings are about much more than George Floyd, but invoke his name as we address this moment. We value and honor Tony McDade, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and all the other lives lost due to systemic racism and oppression.

We know we have work to do internally, as we continue to learn and unlearn about what it means to be anti-racist. We recognize that this list of resources isn’t exhaustive or complete. We invite you to contribute more resources below and Wiki folx, we encourage you to help with articles and images about the uprisings. #Blacklivesmatter #GeorgeFloyd #TonyMcDade #BreonnaTaylor #AhmaudArbery

Community Hours: Extending the Collective
June 22 at 12:30p ET | 16h30 UTC

Wikipedia is collaborative as such, but there are limits to the scope of a single user. In this Community Hours, we will present two case studies.

Daniela Brugger, an artist, and Art+Feminism ambassador will talk about her practice in collectives and the possibilities of expanding the single user impact on Wikipedia collaboratively. Since 2016 she has hosted several Edit-a-thons in different art spaces and libraries in various cities in Europe and Southern Africa. 2016 was also the year she founded the collective Who writes his_tory?, a collaborative project, which sees itself as part of movements and works closely connected with other committed writers and groups with a common interest in the exchange and structural influence on Wikipedia.

Zofia Reznik, an art scholar, and cultural animator will present the Caryatid Collective (Kolektyw Kariatyda), a grassroots initiative of enriching Polish Wikipedia with information on women in arts. The group was formed in Wrocław at the end of 2018 and it has started organizing edit-a-thons within the frame of 2019 Art+Feminism campaign, with the kind support of Wikimedia Polska Association. The Caryatids have so far organized 8 edit-a-thons in collaboration with various local art institutions and published the first issue of their zine. The group members are also contributors to the Polish Wikiproject:Women, striving for structural changes, as well as other national feminist Wikipedia campaigns. The collective is also a 2020 Rapid Grant beneficiary.

This session will be in English. URLs will be shared with registered participants on the day of the event.
