As we begin the year 5786, how can we live our lives and set examples that will continue after our lifetimes? How can we contribute to making the world a better place?
How can we set examples for younger generations, those who will inherit the world we leave to them?
Our commitment to tikkum olam may be realized through the bequests we make in our wills and trusts to charities we believe will continue their good work.
We should be motivated by doing good. Our giving comes from the heart. How we give may be impacted by income tax and estate tax savings. Making a bequest to American Friends of the Hebrew University (AFHU) assures that the work of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem can continue into the next generation.
Your bequests can be undesignated, enabling AFHU to direct the funds to meet the needs of the University when received. Your bequests can also be designated for specific uses at the University that are dear to you.
A bequest can be named for you or in memory of loved ones. It can be endowed to run in perpetuity and provide yearly distributions for the purposes you have directed, while keeping the principal of your endowment fund intact.
Writing a will and creating a living trust are important life tasks. With a carefully constructed estate plan, you may be able to provide for your family and others while also supporting charities you believe in.
What do you want to leave behind after your lifetime? It may be among the most important decisions you will ever make. And it will make your memory a blessing.
AFHU will be pleased to suggest some planning strategies for you to share with your family and your professional advisors.
