Team 238 qualified and attended the New England District Championship, where the top 64 teams in the district competed to qualify for the World Championship in Detroit. The event ran from April 10th to April 13th at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, MA.

Our team placed 21st prior to alliance selections and won seven of our twelve qualification matches. The eighth seed alliance captains selected us and we fought hard until our elimination in quarterfinals. We changed the shape of the panel mechanism for this competition and were able to manipulate panels more efficiently, and improved upon placement of cargo and Level 3 panels. Unfortunately, our Level 2 climb was not as reliable as it was at our previous competition. The tread on our wheels had worn down over the course of the season and it prevented us from getting enough traction to ramp up to Level 2.

The scouting data collected during qualification matches helped us pick a well qualified robot to round out our alliance. Scouting was difficult at this event because there were not enough students to create separate scouting shifts. We had to ask some of our mentors and parents to scout so that students could take breaks. Also, there was not enough light in the stands to see the clipboards. We solved this problem halfway through the second day by using book lights.

A few judges visited our pit. Some of the things they asked about were RIDDLER’s design, team safety protocols, and our award winning business plan. Students were eager to talk to, and learn from, the judges.

This season we met 2 of our 3 season goals, submitting a Chairman's Award that we are proud of and training new students for the future. While we fell short of our third goal of captaining an alliance at the District Championship, we built a robot that was competitive at all of our events. We placed 26th out of 203 teams in the New England District and qualified for the World Championship. Sadly, we were not able participate due to a lack of resources. Now that the FRC season is officially over, we are able to focus on community outreach, team recruitment, and planning for next season.
Thank you for all your support to help make this season a success!
