HR 1471 House Study Committee on the Revitalization of Atlanta State Farmers Market wants to hear from you. We encourage you to attend a meeting or complete the online survey (5-7 minutes). This 150 acres site acquired by the State of Georgia in 1956 is a historic landmark in Clayton County. Many of us have great memories. The Atlanta State Farmers Market’s primary purpose is to promote the handling, packing, transporting, storage, distribution, inspection, and sale of agricultural products. It’s the largest distribution center in the Southeast USA. A House Study Committee was created in March 2018 to determine its viability and ensure longevity due to the sharp decline in attracting individual consumers over the years.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:
Rep. Stovall has been appointed by Governor Nathan Deal as a member on the Joint Study Committee for the Establishment of a State Accreditation Process. She was a co-signor on the resolution during this past session. Currently in Georgia, the majority of primary and secondary public schools and local school systems seek accreditation through a private organization, and there is no state government entity in our state that accredits primary and secondary public schools or local school systems. Rep. Stovall stated, "I am grateful and honored to be a part of deciding if the state should have an accreditation process established. As an elected official from Clayton County, this is important for me because in 2008 our school system was the nation's first in nearly 40 years to lose its accreditation. Although, we regained it back, our county still feels the economic impact and negative stigma as a result. Many people didn't know the ruling by SACS was not due to academics but solely on board governance. That is also questionable in my opinion." The meeting dates have not been posted. Feel free to give your opinion on this matter or other topics by contacting my office 404-656-0314 or email: contact@gostovall.com

BULLYING IN CLAYTON COUNTY

Is your child a victim of Bullying or you know of a child and you don't know what to do? Clayton County Police Department youth group “Teens Initiating Change” have created a video.

Click to View Video Created by Teens

As stated by law enforcement, Bullying in our society has become an epidemic and it is for that reason that we present this public service announcement to you.  The advancement of technology has allowed bullies to expand their reach and become more personal in their attacks.  No longer can our youth easily escape the torment of bullies by running home to what was formerly known as their “safe haven”.  No matter how bullying touches our youth, it affects our community as a whole.

Bullying tends to have an adverse effect on the learning ability of those who have been harassed. To counteract and discourage bullying behavior, the Clayton County Police Department, Solicitor General’s Office and District Attorney’s Office joined forces to produce a recorded message to convey that bullying will not be tolerated in our county.

Please feel free to email Officer India Smith: india.smith@claytoncountyga.gov your comments and applications are being accepted to participate.
