For the last 3 months, the OurStreets team has been diligently working to take the lessons learned from the How's My Driving app to build a new app from scratch. With the release of OurStreets v1.0 for Android and iPhone, we are well on our way to achieving our vision of truly amplifying people power for safer streets.
Press, Press and more Press
And the media seems to agree, as we've received an incredible amount of press since the WaPo article:
OurStreets is committed to getting our data in the hands of those in our communities that can use it to impact change for safer streets. In response to that commitment, we are setting up partnerships with street safety advocacy organizations to provide them an aggregate view of OurStreets data -- OurStreets Advocate. In turn, these organizations are promoting app usage to their members and helping OurStreets connect with relevant stakeholders.
When users open the app, they get a message telling them which organizations in their area are partnering with OurStreets. Here are our partners to date with many more in the works:
The League of American Bicyclists (national organization with over 300,000 members)
Washington Area Bicyclists Association
Bike Pittsburgh
Fairfax Alliance for Better Bicycling
Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee
Shared Micromobility Pilot in DC (and maybe SF)
We've been talking with several municipalities about using OurStreets as the universal app for shared bike, scooter and moped issue reporting. We are ready to start a private pilot with operators here in DC and possibly SF to work out the kinks in the integrations. Look out for an announcement soon with our first pilot partners, but if you are an operator or connected with an operators that would like to participate, please respond to this email.
Here's how a scooter blocking a sidewalk would be reported via OurStreets:
