You’ve already done so much to grow your project skills this year.
Now, it’s time to show how you’ve made a difference beyond your project. The Other Leadership and Teen Leadership Activities and Other Community Service and Citizenship Activities sections of your portfolio highlight how you’ve helped others, taken initiative, and worked to make your community a better place. These parts show judges that you are not only learning about your main project, but you are also a well-rounded individual.
Seniors (worth 15 points) and Juniors (worth 15 points) both list leadership experiences that are not directly tied to their main project in the Other Leadership and Teen Leadership Activities Section of their Portfolio.
Example Bullet Points:
Served as Secretary for my 4-H Club from January to December
Served as a Teen Leader at the Dahlonega Day Summer Day Camp
Helped the 4-H staff plan a Community Club Meeting
Represented the county 4-H program at a Board of Commissioners meeting
This section focuses on how you’ve given back to others. Both Seniors (worth 15 points) and Juniors (worth 15 points) list activities that benefit the community, especially ones not related to their main project.
This could include activities like volunteering at community events or food drives, helping with park cleanups or beautification projects, or writing thank you cards for veterans, first responders, or other community helpers.
Example Bullet Points:
Collected 120 canned goods for the Meals by Grace food drive in November
Helped plant flowers at the community center in April
Read to first graders at my elementary school in May
Wrote thank you cards for veterans on Veterans Day
For Everyone:
Make a list of the ways you have led or served others this year. Think about both 4-H, other clubs, school, and your everyday life. Add clear, detailed bullet points to your portfolio for leadership and community service.
Extra Challenge:
If your list feels short, find one new way to lead or serve before the end of the year!
