The President signed the law which restarts the National Agency for Corruption Prevention
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed the law “On amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine on ensuring the effectiveness of the institutional mechanism for corruption prevention”.

This is one of the most important anti-corruption laws that restarts the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP). Important changes are also applied regarding asset declarations of the leadership of the Security Service of Ukraine and other law enforcement officials. More details
New Qualification Commission of Judges and decisive say of international experts: the Verkhovna Rada voted in favor of the judicial reform

On October, 16, the Parliament of Ukraine voted in favour of the draft law No.1008, which is a crucial step of the reform of the judiciary in Ukraine.

Firstly, the law suggests to completely restart the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine (HQCJ).

The new members of the commission will be selected by the panel partially composed of international experts. Moreover, the latter will have a meaningful role in the selection process. Secondly, the High Council of Justice (HCJ) will be cleansed from dishonest members with the help of the Ethics Commission, also partially composed of international experts with a crucial role.

The law addressed most of the concerns of the civil society and the international community, apart from downsizing the Supreme Court. CSOs which have been monitoring the establishment of the Supreme Court from the very beginning are convinced that the Court indeed should be cleaned of dubious judges, but on an individual basis, with clear criteria, by new trusted judicial governance bodies.

We believe that despite flaws, which have to be corrected, the law paves the way for a qualitatively new phase of the judicial reform - cleansing of the judicial governance bodies - and we hope that international partners will help Ukraine to make maximum use of this chance and will actively engage in its implementation. More details about the draft law.

NABU detained former deputy head of the National Defense and Security Council Hladkovskyi
On October 18, 2019, the Former First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine (NSDC), detained by the NABU Detectives on October 17, was given a notice of suspicion. He is suspected of abuse of office and non-declaration of income. The investigation revealed that the ex-official had abused his official post contrary to the interests of the state in order to obtain an improper advantage by the PJSC “Automobile Company Bohdan Motors” (the suspect is the beneficiary owner). Hladkovskyi is a long-time ally of Petro Poroshenko. More details
