Are you ready for Brexit?
This is the first of our bi-weekly Brexit updates that we will send to you as we continue with the preparation and implementation of AGRO Merchants’ Brexit planning in association with all our customers and partners. We have also added a special Brexit section on our website to keep you updated.
It is less than 8 Weeks to go to the end of the Transition Period and as trade deal negotiations continue and the prospect of a no deal Brexit looks like a possibility, we must prepare for all eventualities and outcomes.
Through developing strong business relationships with all our valued customers, AGRO Merchants continues to work in partnership and help all our customers implement Brexit & Customs Solutions
The UK Transition period will end at midnight 31st December 2020 and the UK will leave the EU permanently. All traders will require Import & Export declarations. This will mean Border Checks and Documentation. Every Business will need an Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) Number. Products of Animal & Plant Origin will require health certification. Certificates, Authorizations, Markings & Labelling will need consideration.
Hauliers will need new authorizations and permits to travel through member states with their Vehicles. There are new rules for citizens, we need to check our employee’s immigration status and ensure they have the required status and permits to live and work within in the UK.
A ‘No Deal’ Scenario will mean Input Tariffs (WTO) and Input VAT on both sides of the border between UK & EU. We need to understand our trading Incoterms, who is the Importer/ Exporter and who is liable for any import duty/vat. Understand the relationship between the Importer, the clearing agent, the haulier and the carrier as well as the customs clearance & border entry checks.
The HMRC recently announced a £200m contract to introduce customs checks on the Irish Sea. A two-year contract for new trader support service (TSS) was awarded to a consortium led by Fijitsu and its partners, the Customs Clearance Consortium, an organization run by customs expert Robert Hardy and the Institute of Export and International Trade.
Are you aware of the special rules that apply to trade between the UK mainland & Northern Ireland under the Northern Ireland Protocol? The UK government have contracted the TSS (Trader Support Service) to help traders with advice and support to comply with Brexit rules as the UK & EU introduce Customs checks on the Irish Sea.
AGRO Merchants are leading the way in Brexit preparation for our Food & Logistics Supply Chain across all our UK & European sites including Ireland which is the only country in the EU with a land border between EU & UK.
AGRO has joined many leading Transport and logistics Providers and entered into partnership with the Customs Clearance Consortium (CCC) who will provide specialist Brexit and Customs Expertise Advice & Customs Clearance Agency Services. You will find all the information on our website by clicking this link.
How is AGRO preparing for Brexit Readiness
We have added customs experience and knowledge in-house to our operations team to provide on-going support and training to all our employees.
When travelling through EU countries or fleets will require vehicle authorizations and all our drivers will have to hold international driving licenses.
We have applied for and are preparing our warehouse operations for Customs Freight Simplified Procedure and External Temporary Storage Facility (CSFP & ETSF). We are also working with government departments on Groupage Export Facilitation Scheme (GEFS), more information can be found on our Brexit web page.
Through EDI & Web Services, AGRO will interface with our customers to help gather Master and Transactional data.
Our IT/Systems department along with our application partners are developing fully integrated solutions between our Transport Management System (TMS) and CCC.
To make it easier for our customers we are setting up WEB access to our TMS portal where we will hold the customer master data and the enter the transactional data.
