MY FAVORITE ROUTE - ROHITH GUNAWARDENA

The My Favorite Route series continues on our blog with a look at the entire 2011 Classic “Going Coastal” route from Rohith Gunawardena, Cycle Oregon’s Volunteer-On-Ride-Photographer. He describes himself as a "cyclist and amateur photographer who loves to take pictures of flowers, faces, and people on bicycles" and he’s been on course and behind the lens for us since that 2011 ride.

Click here to read the full feature on our blog. And make note of his most important message, “If you are on a bicycle, smile when you see me!”

NEW IN THE CYCLE OREGON STORE TODAY!

In the early days of the Oregon Scenic Bikeway program, these Cycle Oregon route signs were developed as possible wayfinding markers for the selected bikeway routes throughout the state. It was ultimately decided that non-branded, MUTCD-compliant (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) signs to be utilized instead – which is what you see on Oregon’s Scenic Bikeways today.

Brad needs space in the warehouse so we're selling this batch of signs to make some room. Made of Sintra PVC, these  lightweight, rigid, and weather-proof signs are perfect for showing off your Cycle Oregon spirit indoors or out.

BLUE LIGHT SPECIAL

Have you ever been at an intersection on your bike as the traffic light cycles through without a green for you and wondered why or how you hadn’t been noticed? It can happen and for bicyclists it can be a source of aggravation and anxiety. We spoke with our friends at Portland Bureau of Transportation to learn about how Detection Confirmation Indications, those little blue lights, can help cyclists navigate tricky intersections with confidence.

BIKE GALLERY - SINCE DAY 1

They’ve been with us since the beginning, (that’s 32 years and counting!) and we are definitely missing our friends from Bike Gallery this year. But they're not taking it easy; the bike business is booming and the Bike Gallery crew has been working all summer to put more Oregonians on bicycles than ever before.

We spoke with Sterling Hill, Bike Gallery’s Director of Sales and a veteran himself of ten years supporting Cycle Oregon, to learn a little more about Classic from the view behind the wrenches. Check out that story and a few great historical photos over in a new feature on our blog here.
