Hey there,

I just got done reaching out to a potential source for a major, major story we're working on. This source (understandably) is extremely nervous about helping us with our investigation, which got me to thinking...

What are the factors that go into someone making a decision to do the right thing, but in a way that could potentially put them at risk personally or professionally?

Obviously, we want this person to come forward and think it's really important they do, but I also can't fault them if they decide that it's much too risky.

After all, Jordan and I have been warned off of this story several times—for personal and professional reasons AS WELL as safety reasons.

But, it's absolutely unfathomable to me that we wouldn't go forward with it. Just UNTHINKABLE. Because it's the right thing to do.

Because it means JUSTICE.

One thing I know for sure, and that's that we couldn't do the deep investigative work we're doing without your help. We thank you so, so much for your support as a viewer, reader, and grassroots funder.

We'll have exciting news for you soon, but in addition to sharing my thoughts and part of our reporting process with you today, I am asking for your help.

Jordan and I are SO close to our GoFundMe goal—a goal which helps us report in-the-field and track investigative stories in a way no other outlet is.

Can you donate to our GoFundMe fundraiser today? Absolutely any amount would help (every $5 helps!). And if by some miracle there are a couple of people out there with deeper budgets, we could really use a boost right now for important reasons related to our journalism and the justice we hope it will bring.

I'll write you again soon—I'm running out the door to go to a benefit for the family of an amazing and much-missed friend of mine who unexpectedly passed away. But please know that whether you're able to donate today or not, we appreciate you so much!
