Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch

Welcome to the inaugural issue of Tyrannosaurus Ranch, the only official newsletter of David Afsharirad. Accept no substitutes and do not be fooled by imitators!

What's new around these parts? Well, I'm glad you asked.

The Year's Best Military & Adventure SF, Volume 4, edited by yours truly, hit bookstore shelves in early June. You can pick yourself up a copy at Amazon, B&N, or buy the ebook directly from Baenebooks.com. You can also pick it up at your local indie bookstore; if they don't have it, ask for it by name!

And speaking of The Year's Best Military & Adventure SF, Volume 4, did you know that there is such a thing as The Year's Best Military & Adventure SF Readers' Choice Award? Because there is. You can vote for your favorite story from the anthology. The author of the winning story gets a handsome plaque and an even handsomer stack of five $100 bills. Click here to vote.

And still speaking of TYBM&ASFV4 (as the kids call it), it's part of this awesome military science fiction storybundle, curated by Kevin J. Anderson. Pay whatever you want and you'll get four great military SF titles. Pay at least $15 and get eight bonus books! Plus, a portion of the proceeds go to charity. Check it out here.

July 20th is the publication date of DrabbleDark, an anthology of one hundred 100-word stories with a dark theme. My story "Tiny Door" is reprinted therein. It's the perfect thing to help you beat the summer heat by sending a chill down your spine. Preorder it from Amazon here.

In convention news, I'll once again be at ArmadilloCon in Austin. No word yet on which panels I'll be on, but I will be serving as an instructor at the ArmadilloCon Writer's Workshop for the first time. ArmadilloCon runs from August 3-5. If you've never been, friend, you're missing out!

Guess that's about it for now. Stay tuned for updates!

Can't way the agonizing 31 days until the next Tyrannosaurus Ranch newsletter? Check out the website, Tyrannosaurus Ranch, the Official Website of David Afsharirad, where I post stuff occasionally.
On the Nightstand

A superb collection of stories by a writer with a wholly unique mind. Like John Collier, Davidson doesn't fit into any neat boxes, but every story is a gem.
The Silver Screen

Went to see Raiders of the Lost Ark at one of those retro screenings theaters (thank God) like to do during the summer. I've seen it a hundred times, but never on the big screen. Absolutely worth doing so, if you get a chance. Raiders is the greatest adventure film of all time and deserves to be seen in a theater.
On the Turntable

The Everly Brothers: The Everly Brothers & It's Everly Time. Been listening to a lot of early rock and roll lately. The Everly Brothers are, in my mind, criminally underrated. Listening to these records, you can see what an influence they were on The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and really any rock group that uses harmony vocals to this day.
