BWC's BLOG - The Indo-Pacific Economic Framework and U.S.-China Relations

BWC’s blog presents an opportunity for members to publish original works that will be shared with the BWC community and promoted on our website and social media pages.

President Biden’s debut tour in Asia took place at a time of complex international dynamics. “We’re navigating a dark hour in our shared history,” President Biden said when meeting the leaders of India, Australia, and Japan last week. With the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, the Asia-Pacific region holds strategic significance in the realm of international affairs and economy.
The White House recently announced a new Indo-Pacific Economic Framework and twelve Indo-Pacific countries have joined representing 40% of world GDP. This is likely to impact the economic and geopolitical dynamics in the Asia-Pacific region, directly affecting the U.S.-China bilateral trade relationship.
BWC wants to hear its members’ take on how President Biden’s recent visit to Asia might shape Asian multilateral economic policy, and how might China respond to Biden's signature economic initiative for the region?

WORKING GROUPS - BWC Announces New Working Group on Multilateral Reform
BWC recently formed a new special project working group to analyze the shortcomings of the international economic architecture and to propose substantive reforms. The Ukraine-Russia war has underscored the significant fissures and weaknesses in the economic and security arrangements that exist to promote economic prosperity and sustain peaceful coexistence among nations. The need for reform is compelling and urgent, just as it was in 1944, when the IMF and the World Bank were conceived at the Bretton Woods Conference.
Stay tuned for upcoming announcements regarding this new working group!
