The BWC Goes to the Pacific

On 27 and 28 July, Fiji hosted a regional workshop on the universalization of the BWC, bringing together almost 40 participants from across the region and the world. Representatives from the host country were joined by individuals from four states in the Pacific region not yet party to the convention (Kiribati, Niue, Samoa and Tuvalu), representatives of the EU Delegation, the UN Multi-Country Office Suva, the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, experts from civil society (VERTIC and Parliamentarians for Global Action), and staff members from UNODA and the BWC ISU.

The workshop, which was made possible by financial backing from the EU, sought to raise awareness of the BWC in the region and promote the efforts of states to move closer towards accession.

Building on the workshop’s momentum, the BWC ISU will continue to engage with all participants to promote universalization in the Pacific.
