The UNOSSC Regional Division for Arab States, Europe and the CIS released the 2016 Annual Report. The report summarizes deliverables produced in compliance with the UNOSSC guiding frameworks and regional strategic approach based on the overall operational context. Download the report.

In this section, the Division for Arab States, Europe and the CIS presents an overview of some of the newest development solutions placed on the southsouthworld.org mapping portal, which was developed with the support of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and UNDP RBAS. This mapping tool is intended to provide `one-stop shop` access to practical, easy-to-use expertise in the broad range of the South-South cooperation mechanisms and solutions in the two regions. Success in implementing innovative approaches to solving problems in diverse areas can inspire stakeholders to facilitate the replication of those solutions in other countries.

Uzbekistan: Mobile Application for Horticulture Farmers
MEVA is an android-based mobile application that provides a gateway to information for Uzbek farmers, particularly those involved in orchard and vineyard production. The application was developed under the USAID project with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan in 2015.

Turkey: Campaign for Preventing Bread Waste
Launched by the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) in 2013 with the broad support of the Government and civil society, the campaign blanketed 12 major cities. It targeted households, bakeries, cafeterias, restaurants, and hotels with the aim of preventing bread waste and the loss that it creates for the economy.

Kyrgyzstan: Water Users Associations for Sustainable Farming
The introduction of water users associations responsible for on-farm irrigation led to the decentralization of public administration and increased the efficiency of irrigation while promoting water-saving irrigation technologies.

Hungary: Drought and Water Scarcity Management System (DWMS)
In 2015, the General Directorate of Water Management and the University of Szeged initiated the DWMS, an effective tool to support water management for irrigation and other agricultural activities. With the new drought index that supplies daily information, this solution decreases the damage of a drought during the extreme weather conditions.

Serbia: Innovation against Corruption in the Health and Education Sectors
Since 2014 UNDP Serbia in partnership with the Government has been leading an intensive campaign to fight corruption in health and education. It has introduced innovative tools, such as the SMS system for reporting corruption in the health sector, citizens’ charters in health institutions and an anticorruption legal clinic.

Egypt: Bassita Turns Web Users into Philanthropists
Bassita is an Egyptian web-based start-up that focuses on social and environmental causes and aids in their development through the use of cause-related marketing. The Bassita team developed the first Clickfunding model in the world, which aims to transform everyday web users into web philanthropists through the click of a mouse.

UNOSSC and the Regional Hub of Civil Service in Astana to expand collaboration. Partnership for the improvement of civil service was in the focus of the Annual Conference of the Regional Hub, which was attended by heads of government agencies and experts from 40 countries. Read more.

India, Brazil and South Africa (IBSA) support training to improve the livestock-rearing practices of local farmers. A livestock breeding and reproduction workshop was hosted by Saint Lucia in the context of the IBSA Fund project. Find out more.

UNDP Armenia supports South-South cooperation knowledge exchange among the countries in the region. In October 2016, the country office hosted a delegation from the Republic of Moldova comprised of representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the State Forestry Agency Moldsilva, the State Environment Inspectorate and UNDP Republic of Moldova, as part of the South-South cooperation initiative to share experiences in forest-related projects and the overall forestry sector in Armenia. The Center training courses cover a variety of topics that may be of interest to the agricultural practitioners from around the world. The calendar and the application forms for each training course are available on the Center web-site.
The Center provides services under the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policy of the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock.
