KICKOFF PARTY RECAP

If you attended the 2020 Cycle Oregon Kickoff Party then you know just how much there was to celebrate. Oh, and you were probably blown away by the immersive wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling presentation from our executive director, Steve Schulz.

GRAVEL will be going back to the backroads of Tygh Valley for another two days of wide-open riding. Joyride will be returning to the down-home community of Independence for our annual celebration of women and bikes. WEEKENDER is back and we’re taking over the campus of Oregon State University in Corvallis. And Classic rolls to John Day, Monument, Fossil,  Mitchell, and Dayville to ride The Painted Hills. New for this year there’s going to be multiple layover days and options galore!

If you couldn’t make it to the kickoff we have a recap on our blog here or if you want to relive the presentation and hear all the tempting details straight from Steve, you can watch the video here.

REGISTRATION IS OPEN for all events!  Don’t wait, after that thrilling Kickoff Party our events are starting to fill up.

WHERE THE RUBBER MEETS THE ROAD

Cycle Oregon’s mission is to “transform individuals and communities through bicycling” and we direct the proceeds from our events, the ones you enjoy riding year after year, to the Cycle Oregon Fund. Established in 1996, the Cycle Oregon Fund has awarded more than 325 grants totaling $2.3 million.

We are excited to announce our 2019 round of grants, $139,050 in total, awarded in support of 22 projects that foster community and work to preserve and protect Oregon’s special places. Visit our blog to learn more.

MARK BOSWORTH FUND - CYCLE OREGON GRANT

The Mark Bosworth Fund honors the life of avid cyclist and true friend to Cycle Oregon, Mark Bosworth. Mark went missing in 2011 and since 2013, the Mark Bosworth Fund has been giving first-time Classic riders the opportunity of a lifetime – a free entry to the event. This generous scholarship offer is not a contest but rather an opportunity for individuals who would be deterred from participation due to cost. Applications are now open and will be accepted through March 15th, 2020.

Grant details and application instructions are here. The chosen recipient(s), as determined by the Mark Bosworth Fund board of directors, will have Cycle Oregon registration along with Tent and Porter services paid in full through this grant. Mark’s life centered on mentorship and teaching and we are honored that his legacy continues to inspire others through a celebration of bicycling.

CALL FOR NEW VOLUNTEERS
There’s a group of people who are every bit as important to Cycle Oregon as the riders. They have just as much fun, and probably sweat a lot less. They are the Cycle Oregon event volunteers.

If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering at one of our events, we’d love to meet you. Please join us on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 from 6-8 p.m.; event details on Facebook here

The evening is open to anyone who is interested in volunteering with Cycle Oregon for the first time and would like to learn more. We will discuss the lineup of 2020 events, what to expect as a first-time volunteer, and available volunteer positions.
