Highlights of our recent activities & impact!

November 2020

Crises and conservatism are jeopardizing sexual and reproductive health and rights. Now is the time to restate not rip up their place in development, say Europe's progressive governments.

We look at what the past year has meant for sexual and reproductive health and rights, how COVID-19 impacts women's access, how women and girls' health is under attack by illiberal actors and how European goverments plan to continue the global fight for gender justice beyond 2020.

This article is the outcome of a consultation with the foreign affairs ministries and development agencies of Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK and the EU institutions. The analysis is based on policy documents and insights gathered from discussions with government representatives in April and May 2020.

This year we are marking the commitments and investments done by European donors but also the work ahead. This is done under the ‘Because She Counts’ campaign banner, with a social media campaign and activities in each of the partner countries in order to raise awareness of SRH/FP. Here's what our partners have done so far.
Action in front of the European Parliament in Brussels. We ask decision-makers to put universal health care, human rights and equality at the core of all public policy and funding decision, amid the pandemic and always.

Countdown 2030 Europe partner, IPPF EN, is a proud supporter of the European Week of Action for Girls (EWAG)

EWAG is a week-long programme of events and activities, based around the International Day of the Girl Child. This year’s EWAG focused on the relationship between the European Union (EU) and Africa. In the framework of EWAG  young advocates have been provided a platform to speak out about how the EU-Africa partnership can reflect their aspirations and unlock their potential.
The topics this year were:
  • sexual and gender-based violence
  • sexual and reproductive health and rights
  • education and economic empowerment
  • political participation.
