As movements for racial equality grow, SRL will continue to provide educational resources on race and justice and use our platform to uplift youth voices from diverse and underrepresented communities.
We stand against racism and the pervasive inequalities facing BIPOC communities in our society. SRL was created to empower the voices of young people who are left out of important conversations.
Our community is intended to be a brave place where students search for deeper understanding and feel comfortable sharing their experiences, perspectives and solutions through their journalism and video storytelling work.
In early May, SRL and ASCD (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) launched #SeniorPortrait, a public awareness campaign to amplify the voices of millions of high school seniors whose class was dramatically disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.
SRL and ASCD asked high school seniors to submit a video response demonstrating how their senior year was impacted. 25 videos were submitted from Puerto Rico to Illinois.

That's a Wrap! 2020 Homegrown Fellowship Concludes
Our Homegrown Fellowship provides students in the Washington D.C. region an opportunity to develop journalism and video production skills and connect with other students who are passionate about storytelling.
While this year’s Fellowship was disrupted by the coronavirus, Fellows produced several pieces that premiered at a virtual event last month. These include a profile of first-time voters, a montage of their daily lives under quarantine and a TikTok series on mental health under lockdown.
Voice-over, also known as VO, is a key tool for video journalists. Writing a great VO script is important, but it can only shine if the reporter reading it has an excellent delivery. As an educator, there are a few ways that you can help reporters with their delivery. Keep reading.
