The Ugly Truth Campaign: Rotary’s fight to end sex traffickingMay 30, 2025
On May 30, the Rotary Club PNW Ending Sex Trafficking, featured in this month’s Rotary Magazine, is taking a first step in bringing to our area an ambitious assault on the myths that perpetuate sex trafficking. The campaign, entitled The Ugly Truth Campaign, was pioneered by the Sacramento Rotary Club in 2018. The campaign consists of billboard and public transportation advertising. Each ad states a myth about commercial sexual exploitation followed by the ugly truth. |

Every June, YMCA Camp Colman becomes a hub of inspiration as Rotarians, volunteers, and approximately 100 teenagers gather for the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) hosted by Districts 5030 and 5020. This four-day, immersive program – RYLA Northwest – provides an intensive leadership experience designed to develop essential leadership skills and forge lasting connections among youth from both districts.

On Vashon-Maury Island alone, more than 20 rogue tires were counted during just a few recent low-tide walks — stark reminders that marine pollution isn’t just an abstract issue. These tires aren’t only unsightly; they pose serious environmental risks. As tires break down, they leach hazardous chemicals into the water, release microplastics, and threaten vital marine life, from salmon to shellfish to seabirds.

On April 17, the University Sunrise Rotary presented Mainstay at Seattle Central College with a Rotary Grant of $18,167 for the “Computers for Careers” project. With generous gifts from Rotary Clubs from all around the Greater Seattle area including the University Sunrise Rotary, University District Rotary, Rotaract at the University of Washington, Mercer Island Rotary Club, Lake Forest Park Rotary, Ballard Rotary, and Rotary International District 5030, Mainstay will be able to purchase 9 specialized, laptop computers that will allow job seekers with disabilities and their staff process require documentation and complete the job development process with mobility and accommodation.
