Greetings bat lovers! The return migration saw about 80 Mexican free-tailed bats come in to our care in 3 weeks back in March!  Many just needed relocation, but some are still in long-term care.  We have been busy rehabilitating those (one more ready for release tonight) and gearing up for baby season, which kicked off on Mother's Day with the first evening bat pups, and is about to hit full swing with the free-tailed and red bat pups.

In awe over Amplify

We're still absolutely amazed by our supporters' generosity during Amplify Austin. We raised $7,600, a record Amplify showing for us. If you missed Amplify Austin, we're always accepting donations on our website.

Did we mention we had the fantastic opportunity to do a Facebook broadcast as part of Amplify Austin? You can watch the two broadcasts here and here.
Bat pups coming soon to a bridge near you!

The Mexican free-tailed bats are about to have their pups! Viewing is tricky at this time of year. Interested in visiting the bridge and need the most up-to-date tips and flight information? Check out our website!

And don’t forget, you can catch us at the bridge every week for Friday Night Flights!

ABR merch is back in stock

We've restocked and added new colors in some of the most popular styles. Not to mention we're now offering kids' sizes! Arlo, age 6 and 4' tall, is rocking a Youth X-small. Volunteer Aja is modeling the new crop top color. The proceeds of our t-shirt sales go directly to our mission of helping bats. Check 'em out!

Volunteer spotlight: Lisa Ramie

Q: How did you get started at ABR?
A: I heard about Austin Bat Refuge minutes before thousands of bats flew over my head. The boat operator on my evening bat cruise mentioned the great work Austin Bat Refuge does, and I filled out a volunteer application the next day. Since then I’ve picked through countless mealworms, searched palm fronds for sleepy yellow bats, and even directed a live stream show for the refuge. Volunteering for Austin Bat Refuge is truly a unique experience, and I’m so honored to have this opportunity.

Prison colony eviction

Three-quarters of a million bats have roosted in an old cotton warehouse on Huntsville prison grounds since the 1990s. Now that the building will be demolished, Austin Bat Refuge is racing against the clock to help with the exclusion. Read our most recent update.

When you wish upon a bat

We’ve got some big wishes for Austin’s bats, as well as a few small ones that we could use your help with. Check out our Amazon Wish List to send us some of the rehab supplies that we desperately need.

And a huge shout-out to Redditor diditmakeasound for his heartfelt and superbly crafted post "Dying bat in my backyard", and his matching donation!
The huge outpouring of support was unexpected and uplifting just when we needed it.
Thanks so much to everyone who contributed and bought items from our wish list.
And follow us for baby season videos on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter!
