First Friday Stall
Lakeland Democratic Club and Polk Democrats each month man a tent at the First Friday Event at Downtown Lakeland, on Kentucky Ave at Munn Park, between 6-9 pm. Volunteer to meet and greet visitors. This month's theme is Three King's Celebration. Enjoy live music by Expresion Latina with a guest performance by Tito Puente, Jr., as well as family-friendly activities.

Can you spare 1-2 hours or more between the hours of 9 am - 2 pm on a Saturday, each week or once a month? If so, please sign up! We are not allowed to set up a table, so you will be standing on a corner with your clipboard.
Please note that bilingual (especially Spanish/English) volunteers are needed for all voter registration events!

Promoting the Build Back Better initiative

How will the Biden Administration's Build Back Better initiative positively impact Floridians?

Fellow Polk County Democrat Bernie Warren compiled some highlights we will publish over a few weeks to help everyone be confident in promoting and supporting this historic investment to help Americans. Please use it to counter misinformation and promote through your networks, and urge Senators to adopt this bill.

Home Health Care: BBB will support families with long-term care needs by expanding access to home and community-based care to more of Florida’s senior and disabled citizens, and improve the quality and wages of caregiving jobs.

Taxes: BBB will cut taxes for families and workers by extending Child Tax Credit (CTC) increases of $300/month per child under 6 or $250/month per child ages 6 to 17, continuing the largest one-year reduction in child poverty in history.

BBB will provide up to $1,500 in tax cuts for more than 1.3 million low-wage workers in Florida by extending the American Rescue Plan’s Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) expansion.

TIn the news: Congress to commemorate anniversary of Jan 6 insurrection

Washington (CNN) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced a slate of events around the US Capitol next week to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the January 6 insurrection.

"These events are intended as an observance of reflection, remembrance and recommitment, in a spirit of unity, patriotism and prayerfulness," Pelosi said in a letter to her Democratic colleagues.

Starting at noon on January 6, Thursday, there will be a prayer and a moment of silence on the House floor followed by a "Historic Perspective" conversation between historians Doris Kearns Goodwin and Jon Meacham "to establish and preserve the narrative of January 6th."

Lawmakers will then share their accounts of the attack in a session presided over by Colorado Democratic Rep. Jason Crow, followed by a prayer vigil with members of the House and Senate on the steps of the Capitol.
