Hey there,

Status Coup has been on this story for weeks, and now the Bernie Sanders campaign is taking action.

In New York, voters are currently required to register as Democrats six months before primary election day to vote in the Democratic primary. This is a rule that disenfranchises voters—especially those who lean independent or further left than 'mainstream' Democrats and do not realize the need to change party registration so far in advance.

Things were supposed to change this year with the New York State Legislature passing a bill to extend the registration deadline to February 14, 2020, instead of the early October deadline. The problem? New York's Governor Cuomo has not yet signed it.

As Status Coup has reported, Governor Cuomo is a political ally and personal friend to former Vice President Joe Biden, leading many to speculate on his motivations for not immediately signing the bill.

Sanders' campaign manager Faiz Shakir sent a letter to the DNC today requesting it take action to get Cuomo to sign.
