Celebrating Service and Leadership Transitions in District 5030
Dear Fellow Rotarians, Crisp mornings and vibrant leaves signal that fall has arrived, a season of change and fresh beginnings across our communities. Fall brings renewed focus, energy, and opportunities for connection. It’s a time to gather, reflect, and prepare for the remaining year ahead while celebrating the beauty of the Pacific Northwest in transition. For Rotary District 5030, this season is about harnessing that spirit of change to deepen service and fellowship. Clubs are launching new projects, welcoming new members, and embracing innovative ways to make an impact. Just as fall brings growth in unexpected ways, our district is finding fresh momentum to support communities locally and globally with renewed leadership.

Reviving Rotary’s Roots: Vocational Service and Community Impact
October is Economic and Community Development Month, a time to reflect on Rotary’s founding principles — and how we continue to live them today. When Paul Harris and his colleagues first gathered in 1905, they envisioned more than fellowship. They saw an opportunity to unite ethical business leaders who believed that success and service could go hand in hand. Rotary was born from that conviction — that our vocations can uplift our communities and that honest business can be a force for good. More than a century later, that belief is once again at the center of who we are. Across the world, communities and consumers are seeking connection with purpose-driven businesses — and Rotary is uniquely positioned to bridge that gap.

Rotary Youth Exchange Offers Life-Changing Opportunities for Students
Every year, Rotary District 5030’s Youth Exchange (RYE) program gives high school students the chance to see the world—not as tourists, but as true cultural ambassadors. Through this transformative experience, students live with host families abroad, attend local schools, and gain lifelong friendships while developing independence, leadership, and a global perspective that lasts a lifetime. “We’re passionate about sharing this incredible opportunity with students,” says Jesús M. López-Guisa, District 5030 STEP Exchange Co-Coordinator. “Youth Exchange changes lives—it opens minds, builds bridges between cultures, and often inspires students to become the next generation of Rotarians.”

Be a Lifeline: Donate Blood and Help Cancer Patients Fight Back
In 2025, an estimated 370,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer. When someone you care about receives this life-altering news, you naturally want to help. Donating blood through Bloodworks Northwest is a powerful and immediate way to make a real impact. Shockingly, one-quarter of our blood supply goes to patients fighting cancer. Chemotherapy takes a heavy toll on blood cells, making transfusions—provided solely by generous volunteers—absolutely crucial. In just one hour, you can become a lifeline for those battling cancer. Act now—schedule your appointment today and be the hero they need.

Our Rotarian Julie Hungar
Julie Hungar has been a member of the Rotary International club since 1985, yes, 40 years in Rotary. Julie worked tirelessly for women to be officially allowed to be accepted into Rotary; Hence, the Supreme Court’s decision,1987, to allow women to be Charter members in Rotary. It was a bitter fight against gender based memberships. The 1989 Council on Legislation vote to admit women into Rotary clubs worldwide remains a watershed moment in the history of Rotary. THANK YOU JULIE
