POLK COUNTY DEMOCRATIC EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY
It’s been nearly a year since the world witnessed the brutal death of George Floyd at the hands of police. Yet, men -and boys - of color are still being executed by police on our streets in the so-called name of ‘law and order’.
We say the names of the latest victims: Daunte Wright. Adam Toledo. We rise up again in protest. Whether we join a protest in person or add our voice to the chorus of demands for change, we must continue to rise up and say “enough”. In memory of Daunte Wright and Adam Toledo, we say enough of the senseless killings by police. Enough of the excuses. Enough of failure by governments to protect the people they serve.
It may have seemed like a long year. Yet, we believe our nation stands at a crossroads and we can not lose momentum. This will be a tough week. We are raw with the news of Daunte Wright and Adam Toledo; and the closing arguments in the George Floyd murder case will be heard. With the verdict to be announced possibly within the week, we must stand strong and demand justice. Demand justice not just for George Floyd but also for Daunte Wright and Adam Toledo.
There are forces working to keep the status quo. However, we believe a sustained reckoning is bringing about change, even here in Florida.
We stand with the need for reform of the status quo. We stand in solidarity with all the families that have felt the impact of these issues.
The American Jobs Plan will devote more than $600 billion to transform our nations’ transportation infrastructure.

The American Jobs Plan will modernize public transit with an $85 billion investment.
Over the next 20 years, Florida’s drinking water infrastructure will require $21.9 billion in additional funding. The American Jobs Plan includes a $111 billion investment to ensure clean, safe drinking water is a right in all communities.
13% of Florida residents have no internet subscription. The American Jobs Plan will invest $100 billion to bring universal, reliable, high-speed, and affordable internet coverage to every family in America
In Florida, 38% of residents live in a childcare desert. The American Jobs Plan will modernize our nation’s schools and early learning facilities and build new ones in neighborhoods across the country.
As of 2019, there were 166,032 Floridians working in clean energy, and the American Jobs Plan invests in creating more good paying union jobs advancing clean energy production
In Florida, an average low-income family spends 8-10% of their income on home energy costs forcing tough choices between paying energy bills and buying food, medicine or other essentials. The American Jobs Plan will upgrade low-income homes to make them more energy efficient
