CAMPAIGN Update 4 days left-
Why Clayton voters should be watchful?
The BUCK. The BOOK. The BALLOT
Economic Development, Education, and Workforce Development are strong pillars for thriving communities. Clayton County is a jewel among the other counties. As a member of the Aerotropolis Atlanta Alliance (click here for more information). There are numerous opportunities for the county to partake in the projected economic growth.
Why isn't the county experiencing steady growth like its neighboring counties?
- Leadership plays a vital role in the growth and the sustainability.
- When citizens are not a part of the planning, political leaders are not transparent in their decisions. Many are not informed on the roles of their city council, county commission, school board, state & federal governments.
- More citizens should be outraged with the injustices in Clayton County:
1. Elimination of video recording of public comments during county commission and school board meetings. Citizens who can't physically attend these meetings are "left in the dark" about comments made by the public because they are omitted from recordings. The majority of commissioners and school board members continue to refuse to vote to allow video recordings. Click here for article from Clayton News Daily
2. Moratorium on commercial zoning by county commission for over a year has prevented new businesses and existing from expanding. Why isn't there a moratorium on quality of housing with mold & mildew and on new building of houses? Click here for article from Clayton News Daily
3. Perceived Conflict of Interest by county commissioner serving as chair and voting member of Economic Development Authority Board while serving at the same time in the capacity of a voting elected official of the commission. This situation allows for an unchecked power of one person who has the ability to vote on contracts as a Economic Development Authority Board member at one meeting and vote again as an Elected County Commissioner at another meeting. Click here for May 15 mtg
4. County Constitutional Officer (Tax Commissioner and Law Officer of the Court (Solicitor General) both elected by the citizens of Clayton are constantly denied requests by majority of the commission board without a reasonable cause. The requests are for competitive salaries for their staff due to their experiences. Click here for May 15 mtg
5. A recent Deficit in the School Board Budget resulting from perceived mismanagement has caused a recommendation for increased classroom sizes, freeze on teacher pay raises, proposed 20 millage increase to taxpayers. The deficit is not due to a decrease in funding. As a matter of record, the State has increased funds to the district for at least the past 5 years. In additional Clayton County Public Schools will receive additional $5 million due to State legislators & Gov. Deal fully funding of QBE. CCPS proposed budget FY 2019 is $690 million. Click here for details The School Board has a fiduciary responsibility for public funds entrusted to them. Majority of the board voted to appoint the previous superintendent.
- May 22nd is an important election day not just in Georgia, but in Clayton County. Voters will decide if they want the County Commission and School Board to remain AS IT IS. Ask questions and wait for answers....
In District 74, Rep. Stovall is a community leader fighting for Clayton County year round not just doing election period. Her reputation and dedication is unquestionable.
She secured $45 million stop-gap for 267,000 Clayton County residents due to the negative impact of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) jet fuel tax exemption ruling at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. This saved residents and businesses from huge tax increases.
Rep. Stovall needs your help to encourage your family, friend, neighbor, co-worker, or stranger in District 74 to cast their vote for her. It's not too late to make a donation of as little as $20.
Listening to real people with real issues are important to her.
