Promoting the Build Back Better initiative

Did you see the information your club or caucus sent highlighting how the Biden Administration's Build Back Better (BBB) bill will positively impact Floridians?

We will be providing this information, as compiled by fellow Polk County Democrat Bernie Warren, over the next few weeks to help everyone be confident in promoting and supporting this historic investment to help Americans. Please use it to counter misinformation and promote through your networks, and urge Senators to adopt this bill.

Bernie wrote: "This Bill may be reduced before it passes the Senate. But it helps average Americans and their families thrive and grow in a society that has for too long left them behind."

Child Care: BBB provides access to affordable child care and, high-quality, free preschool for every 3- and 4-year-old in America. Florida will provide access to child care to about 1.1 million young children (ages 0-5) per year for eligible families.

Climate Change: BBB will make the largest effort to combat climate change in American history setting the US on course to meet its climate targets—a 50-52% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030—in a way that creates good-paying union jobs, grows domestic industries, and advances environmental justice.

Food Insecurity: BBB will provide nutritious food options for hungry children by expanding access to free school meals to an additional 1.1 million students during the school year and providing over 2 million students with resources to purchase food over the summer.

Build Back Better Phone Bank

MoveOn is seeking volunteers to contact members in West Virginia and Arizona to push Senators Manchin and Sinema to pass the bold, progressive Build Back Better package.

These Senators need to hear from their constituents that they care about investments in clean energy jobs, care jobs, affordable college, affordable childcare and quality, affordable healthcare for all citizens. There is no time to lose, to ensure an equitable, accessible America for us all.

This Zoom event will be held from 5.30-7.30 pm both Tuesday, Dec 14, and Thursday, Dec 16. You will be trained on the phone bank calling system at the beginning of the event. Please join from a laptop or desktop computer.

Volunteer for Weekly Lakeland Curb Market Registrations

Can you spare 1-2 hours or more between the hours of 9 am - 2 pm on a Saturday, each week or once a month? If so, please sign up to help the Polk County Democratic Party during the Lakeland Curbside Farmers Market. We are not allowed to set up a table, so you will be standing on a corner with your clipboard.

Please note that bilingual (especially Spanish/English) volunteers are needed for all voter registration events!

Polk County Democrats show support to expand the Supreme Court

On Tuesday, Dec 7, several Polk County Democrats traveled to Washington DC for the Build Back Better day. While there, members also joined Take Back the Court and visited the White House to urge President Biden to use his bully pulpit to expand the Supreme Court.

Supporters are pushing for passage of the Judiciary Act of 2021, which has now been signed on by more than 45 Representatives and Senators. The Judiciary Act would rebalance the Supreme Court by adding four new seats, giving us 13 judges in total. The White House SCOTUS Commission was established on April 9 to review the Supreme Court structure. Since then, the 'stolen' Court has dismantled the Voting Rights Act, allowed Texas to ban abortion, and so much more.

We must #ExpandTheCourt now.
