When considering going serverless, I've found it helps not to think of it exclusively as a replacement to what you had before, and consider the cost of labor and developer experience on the same level as performance and cost of infrastructure.

Now I don't really want to preach for or against serverless. It's a hot topic and for a lot of things, it's a really great fit. The article describes a workload where it just isn't a great choice.

While the trend in picking shiny new things in the database world has toned down compared to 5 years ago - picking an appropriate data store is an ongoing discussion and there are pros and cons to every approach.

Before adopting anything new in your infrastructure for either features or performance, consider trying to get more out of Postgres that you probably already have. It's well understood, reasonably predictable in cost, has a ton of specialized features, and performance options you might not know about.

Cryptography is the staple of the modern internet. It's also really hard. If you're like me, you feel like people working on it are superheroes because you find it pretty hard to grasp. Especially elliptic curves! The author tries to break it down in an intuitive way. Mind you, it's still a lot, but it's a fascinating read.
