PUBLIC BROADCASTING GETS A RAISE!

(Washington, DC - 12/16/19) -- America's Public Television Stations (APTS) reports that Congress has reached agreement to provide $465 million in funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in FY 2022. This is a $20 million increase over current funding - and the first increase in CPB funding in over a decade.

Additionally, the bill provides a $1.259 million increase for Ready To Learn, funding it at $29 million, and the full funding sought for Interconnection and Infrastructure at $20 million.

To achieve this increase in CPB funding after a decade of flat funding, in a budget climate that remains very restrictive, is a testament to the broad appreciation of the local services that stations provide every day.

APTS extends their thanks all stations, board and community leaders, and the advocates of Protect My Public Media for all of the efforts to make this significant progress possible.

The House of Representatives is planning to vote on the appropriations package tomorrow, and the Senate is expected to consider it shortly thereafter. The Administration was involved in the negotiations to develop this package, and the President is expected to sign the legislation before the current short-term funding measure expires on Friday, December 20.
