Dear Resident,

The coronavirus pandemic is the greatest challenge our country has faced in a generation.

I know that this will be an exceptionally difficult time for our families, our friends and for many members of the local community – especially those that are most vulnerable to the virus.

The situation remains very serious, but we will get through it – together. The single most important thing that you can do is to stay at home in order to protect the NHS and save lives. By doing so, you’re protecting some of the most at-risk residents in our community.

That’s why it’s critically important that you only leave the house for one of four reasons:

To shop for basic necessities, such as food and medicine, as infrequently as possible.

To exercise once a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household.

For a medical need, including to donate blood, avoid or escape risk of injury or harm, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.

To travel for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home.

When we look back on this time, I want to remember how we thought first of one another, undertook a collective community effort, and stood together in the face of adversity.

Finally, thank you to all those serving on the frontlines of our local NHS, and to those who have stepped forward to volunteer across the constituency. You’re making a real difference.

Please take care, look out for your neighbours, and #StayHomeToSaveLives.

NHS Coronavirus advice

COVID-19 is a new illness that can affect your lungs and airways. It's caused by a virus called Coronavirus.

Stay at home if you have either:
  • a high temperature – you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
  • a new, continuous cough – this means you've started coughing repeatedly
Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

You do not need to contact 111 to tell them that you're staying at home.

Testing for coronavirus is not needed if you're staying at home.

Go to NHS.uk/coronavirus for information about the virus and how to protect yourself.

#ThankYouNHS

On Thursday evening, my family and I joined millions of people across the country to Clap for Our Carers.

NHS staff are doing an incredible job, in the most challenging of circumstances. Their dedication, professionalism and compassion is unfailing and we are so fortunate to have them.

I would like to thank all NHS staff, including our brilliant local team at Worcestershire Acute Hospital Trust and the Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust - who have my full support.

I read a great article in the Bromsgrove Standard, which reported on the local support shown to the NHS on Thursday evening: You can read it

NHS Volunteer Responders

The NHS has asked for 250,000 healthy volunteers to support the 1.5 million people in England who are most at risk from the virus.

It was fantastic to see that well over 750,000 people have signed up already! I have signed up too.
