Cholera: a regional total of 25 cases 2 deaths compared to 143 cases 9 deaths during the same period of 2018. The 2 deaths originate from Nigeria and the majority of the cases reported during these 2 periods are from Nigeria: 76% and 86.71% of the regional totals W1-W2 2019 and W1-W2 2018
Measles: 1235 cases including 3 deaths compared to 859 cases 4 deaths in the same period of 2018. All countries except Cabo Verde have reported cases of the disease.
Meningitis: 255 cases, including 12 deaths compared to 440 cases and 27 deaths during the same period last year, a decrease of almost half of the cases in 2018.
Yellow fever: 156 cases including 10 deaths compared to 201 cases, 1 death at week 2 of 2018
Neonatal tetanus: 9 cases, 1 death versus 10 cases, 4 deaths at week 2 of 2018
Lassa fever: The region recorded a total of 87 cases of Lassa fever and 12 deaths compared to 45 cases and the same number of deaths in the same period of 2018.
There are also 75 maternal deaths recorded by 11 countries at week 2, bringing the total number of reported maternal deaths in the first 2 weeks of the current year to 162 (no data from Cabo Verde and Nigeria).
A total of 322 neonatal deaths are reported by 8 countries during weeks 1 and 2 of 2019
