Lewis Warns of Looming Constitutional Crisis, Says GOP has No Choice but to Fill Vacancy
EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. — Today, U.S. Senate candidate Jason Lewis released the following statement regarding the vacancy left on the Supreme Court by the passing of Justice Ginsburg.
“As Minnesotans prepare to cast their ballots for the United States Senate, they need to ask themselves who they want being their voice in the confirmation process of future Supreme Court justices. Do you want Senator Tina Smith, who is openly hostile to your Second Amendment rights and has spoken in favor of post birth abortion on the floor of the United States Senate? Or do you want someone like me who will protect life, free speech, religious liberty, the right to assemble and the Second Amendment? The stakes have never been higher over the election of a United States Senator from Minnesota than they are right now.
“Imagine waking up on November 4th to learn that the results of the 2020 Presidential election are in question, with no clear winner, especially given the fact that the left has been encouraging Joe Biden to refuse to concede should he lose the election. The Supreme Court could be called upon to resolve the dispute as they were in 2000, and, if they are, imagine the ruling that is supposed to decide the next President being a 4-4 deadlock. It would be a constitutional crisis without precedent and the Republic may not be able to survive it.
“Appointing and confirming a Supreme Court justice is of the greatest urgency and the highest national interest, and I hope to see it done swiftly and decisively.”
