Hello!

Welcome to Suvita’s first newsletter.

Over the last couple of years, we have been piloting and iterating our programmes, incorporating feedback from programme participants, building relationships with key partners, responding to the pandemic, expanding our work into new geographies, growing our team, engaging in research projects and continuously refining our strategy to deliver impact at scale. We’ve decided it’s time to share some updates with you.

We began the new year by stepping back to reflect on what we’ve achieved so far and where we plan to go next. If you signed up for our newsletter way back at the end of 2019 - or any time since - and have been wondering what the folk at Suvita are up to, here’s your answer.

2022 is going to be a big year for Suvita. We have proof of concept that our programmes work and this year is all about getting the pieces in place and shifting gears to scale at an exponential rate.

We are excited to navigate this next phase with you.

Warmly,

Varsha and Fiona

Our journey so far

For the best overall summary of the last couple of years, read our note on Suvita’s key milestones 2019-2021.

Key Milestones

To dive into more detail, check out our Pilot Report, describing what we learned during our first phase of piloting the immunisation ambassadors programme in October 2020 - January 2021. This also has a 2-page summary for those who don’t fancy a 31-page extravaganza.

Both of these reports can be found on the new “Publications” page of our website, which we will continue to add to as we produce new material.

Listen

Varsha appeared on the 80,000 hours podcast in October. She talked about the challenges parents face when getting their children fully immunised, the evidence base around promising solutions and where Suvita fits in, and what it’s like to be a nonprofit entrepreneur. Listen to her episode here.

Fiona was interviewed by 8-year-old Curious Vedanth about how Suvita started, how we reach those who will benefit the most from our programmes and what she wanted to be when she was younger. Tune in (whatever your age) to find out more.

Fiona presented at EAGxAsia-Pacific in late 2020, discussing Suvita’s response to the first wave of the pandemic, and why we decided against scaling up a pilot project where we sent mass SMS messages to promote infection control behaviours. You can see the recording here.

See for yourself

We have also added a few photo highlights from Suvita’s first two years to the new “Gallery” page on our website. As a taster, here’s a photo from when Sumit, Allen, Ram and Fiona (left to right) met met Nandkishor (centre), an immunisation ambassador in Saran district, Bihar.

Thank you

None of our work would be possible without your support in all its forms - encouragement, advice, ideas, connections, donations and more. We want to say a huge thank you for your ongoing support as we enter this exciting next phase of Suvita’s work.

Together, we will build a world in which every child has access to their basic vaccinations.

Thank you from the whole Suvita team.
