Dear ISHR supporter,
We did it! On 1 March, Yu Wensheng was able to leave Nanjing Prison and reunite with his family in Beijing, as reported by his wife Xu Yan, upon completion of his arbitrary sentence, and after four years of arbitrary detention.
Thank you for putting pressure on the Chinese authorities and calling on them #FreeYuWensheng. As Xu Yan emphasized, international allies - including you! - have played a vital role over the past four years in guaranteeing that they could now safely reunite.
ISHR will continue to closely monitor the situation of Yu Wensheng and his family with a view to ensure that they are free from harassment and that he recovers his fundamental freedoms.
We would love to continue working with you to stand in solidarity with detained and disappeared human rights defenders. You can further support defenders in China by sending a solidarity message to Chen Zijuan, the wife of Chang Weiping, a lawyer who was placed under Residential Surveillance at a Designated Location (RSDL) and disappeared in October 2020. To date, no one knows where he is held. Write a postcard, and share it with her on your social media.
